Country music lost a gem with the passing of Troy Gentry. He was one half of the famous Montgomery Gentry duo alongside Eddie Montgomery, and had a successful solo career as well. His music career, from the 1990s until his passing in 2017, helped him amass a net worth estimated at over $10 million. Born on April 5, 1967, in Lexington, Kentucky, Gentry spent his early years there and pursued studies in Business Management and Marketing at the University of Kentucky after completing his education at Lexington Community College.

In 1990, Gentry started his musical journey alongside his brother, John Montgomery, in bands like Early Tymz. Even though he tasted success as a solo artist and won the 1994 Jim Beam National Talent Competition, it was when he reunited with Eddie Montgomery to form the duo Deuce, later renamed Montgomery Gentry, that he found his true calling. They signed with Columbia Records and released their debut studio album titled “Tattoos & Scars” in 1999, which achieved platinum certification and marked the start of their financial success.

The duo went on to release numerous hit albums like “Carrying On”, “My Town”, “You Do Your Thing”, “Some People Changed”, “Back When I Knew It All”, “Rebels On The Run” and “Folks Like Us”. Their last album, “Here’s To You”, was released posthumously in 2018. Gentry was married to Angie McClure and had two daughters with her. Prior to that, he was married to Kia Bradley and had a daughter from that marriage as well.

Tragically, Gentry passed away in a helicopter crash on September 8, 2017, in Medford, New Jersey, just before a scheduled concert. His legacy as a celebrated musician lives on, and he is dearly missed in the world of country music.
