MJF Claims He Has Not Re-Signed With AEW Yet, But He Wants To Stay
MJF says the bidding war of 2024 is still on, but he knows where he wants to be.
Jimmy Traina spoke with MJF on the Sports Illustrated Media Podcast. Traina asked for an update on his contract status, noting how there have been rumors that he secretly re-signed with AEW. MJF claims that’s not true, although he would like to remain in AEW.
“I’ve been saying the same thing, I never lied. January 1, 2024 — when stuff like that gets leaked out, it makes me laugh because I remember something getting leaked out about Cody [Rhodes] secretly re-signed and then he showed up [in WWE]. Something leaked about CM Punk and Tony Khan are you know, actually fine… I think fans leak out things that they want to be true.
“I love AEW, I want to stay in AEW. After this pay-per-view, it’s time to assess the situation in a professional setting.”
Traina then explicitly asked MJF to clarify that he had not re-signed.
“Not yet,” MJF stated.
MJF is scheduled to defend the AEW World Heavyweight Championship against Samoa Joe at AEW Worlds End on December 30. The champion is dealing with a torn labrum going into the match, but he still plans to compete. MJF will not have surgery on his shoulder and he will seek alternative recovery treatments to help keep him in the ring.
