Gilmore Girls' Matt Czuchry: Rory, Logan Need 'to Move On'

Publish date: 2024-06-26

Putting it in the past? Gilmore Girls fans have had myriad questions about Rory’s future after the Netflix revival that premiered Friday, November 25, ended in a major cliffhanger. Matt Czuchry, who plays her ex-boyfriend Logan, weighed in on the pair’s romantic path during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter Tuesday, November 29. (Spoilers ahead.)

Rory (Alexis Bledel) and Logan were on and off throughout Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life‘s four new episodes, despite the fact that he was living in London and engaged to a French heiress. Rory finally called off their fling in the fall episode, only to reveal to her mom in the final scene that she is pregnant, with viewers left twisting in the wind as to the dad’s identity.

When asked whether Logan and Rory’s parting of ways was for good, Czuchry said, “It certainly felt that way. I think the way I approached it was they had had their journey together, and from my perspective, Logan, no matter what happens moving forward, will always love Rory and in this particular moment, they know it’s time to move on.”

“Just like their relationship throughout these four chapters was mutual, this ending for them and saying goodbye was mutual,” he continued. “They could feel that it was the time to say goodbye.”

Many fans have speculated that Logan is the father of Rory’s bun in the oven, but Czuchry remained mum on whether this could be the case.

“I think the intention is to keep that open,” the Good Wife alum, 39, said. “I think that’s [the writers’] intention — otherwise they would have done something differently or made it more specific. Their intention was to leave that open and put that out in the universe for fans to talk about and debate and so I’ll kind of leave that to [executive producers] Amy [Sherman-Palladino] and Dan [Palladino] to say if they want to put any more clarity to that. That’s not for me to say.”

As for whether fans will get any additional episodes in the future, Czuchry said he hasn’t heard anything either way about the show coming back. Asked whether he’s open to returning, the actor cited the “amazing energy on set and an amazing camaraderie between everyone” during the revival’s shoot.

“This was really a perfect storm, and it felt that way,” he added. “So we’d have to see what the timing was and the story was to see if it felt like it was the perfect storm again.”

Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life is currently streaming on Netflix.
