ARNOLD, Mo. – Arnold police are investigating what they’re calling an attempted murder-suicide. It happened in the parking lot of a popular shopping center on a busy Friday night. Authorities were called to the parking lot of the Ross Dress for Less store at the Arnold Commons Shopping Center where investigators say a man shot his estranged wife in front of their three children and then shot and killed himself.
Police say it all unfolded around 6:30 Friday night when officers responded to the shopping center which is located at Interstate 55 and Highway 141.
We are told the family was meeting for dinner when the couple got into an argument. Once at the car, police say the man, who was sitting in the passenger seat of his car, shot his wife, got out of the car and walked to the driver’s side and shot her again.
Then, he shot and killed himself. Their three children were in the car at the time of the shooting, including one as young as 4 months old. “This was a disagreement; he shot her, then he shot himself. We are caring for the kids. It’s a hard scene and it’s hard when any kids are involved. Thank God none of them are hurt. This is a tragedy they will remember forever,” said Chief Robert Shockey.
Police found the man deceased with the gun in his hand. Police say the woman is in critical condition and is on life support.
The three children have been released to a relative.
The investigation is on-going.
